Nukak Maku people - hunter and gatheres
The Nukak Maku people are one of the last nomadic hunter and gatheres in South America. They had their first contact with western society in 1988 when they decided to leave their homeland of the tropical forest of the Amazon basin because of illegal armed groups in their territory. Since this contact a lot of Nukak Maku people died because of pulmonary diseases and measles. Some of the Nukak people live temporarily in a reservation near San Jose de Guaviare, where different organizations or missionaries visit them. The Nukak Maku are endangered of extinction.
